When sitting astride a stationary motorcycle you should be able to place both feet on the ground to support yourself and your machine. This is especially important if you have a heavy motorbike, otherwise you might find yourself tipping over at traffic lights.

This also means that if you have a 'moment' while riding, you can reach the floor to balance yourself. You may also find times when riding that you want to use your legs as outriggers, e.g. especially if you're having to brake hard on a slippery surface.
