Some errors are minor and will have no impact unless you repeatedly do them (you can accumulate up to 15 minors of different types and still pass, but only a few of the same one), while others are major errors that result in an immediate fail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Major errors are classed as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dangerous fault &#8211; one that causes actual danger to you, the examiner, the public or property<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serious fault &#8211; something that is potentially dangerous<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Driving fault &#8211; it&#8217;s not necessarily dangerous as a one-off in the circumstances you did it, but if you repeatedly do it, it could be a dangerous or serious fault<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the case of a dangerous or serious fault, you will still complete your test and you won&#8217;t find out until the end whether you have passed or failed. Both minor and major errors result from not following the road rules. The ten most common reasons for failure in each year are listed by DVSA<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/636873\/dvsa1207.pdf\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. A huge number of people fail before they even start through turning up late, not having enough fuel, having a car which isn&#8217;t roadworthy or forgetting their licence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before you take your practical driving test, check through this list so that you have the best chance of passing your test.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Junctions<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incorrect\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/emerging-from-junctions-choosing-the-right-gap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gap selection<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (i.e. pulling out in front of someone causing them to swerve or brake, or not going when there is more than enough time)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Failing to give way to pedestrians and cyclists who have priority.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incorrect indication (e.g. no indication or indicating incorrectly on a roundabout)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being in the wrong lane based on instructions given<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Failing to give way to other vehicles<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cutting the corner on a right-hand junctions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blocking a junction,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/controlled-level-crossings\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">railway level crossing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or pedestrian crossing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stopping across a driveway when instructed to pull over<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Control<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unable to keep the vehicle in the lane (i.e. drifts over the line)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Makes contact with a kerb or other object while driving or manoeuvring<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrates erratic steering, e.g. jerky movements, taking corners too wide or cutting corners<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skidding or wheelspin<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unable to maintain an appropriate speed (e.g. holding other road users up unduly by driving too far below the speed limit)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/tailgating-what-is-it-and-what-are-the-fines\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tailgating<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a driver ahead of you<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Signalling and observation<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Failing to use your indicators when moving away from the kerb, changing lanes, using a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/using-the-road-roundabouts\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">roundabout<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, turning into or out of a side road (whether on a one-way street or not), pulling over to the kerb or leaving\/entering a parking space.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Failure to do observation checks, i.e. looking over your shoulder\/head checks, using your mirrors, checking your blind spots<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Disobeying traffic signs, signals and road markings<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not stopping at all at stop signs or red traffic lights<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stopping in an inappropriate or incorrect place at a stop sign or red light (e.g. over the line or encroaching into a cycle lane)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not going when safe when a light is green<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crossing painted lines where it is not permitted<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Performing a manoeuvre where it&#8217;s not permitted by a regulatory sign, e.g. keep left, no u-turn, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Driving in a lane where it&#8217;s not permitted (e.g. a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/bus-lane-rules\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bus lane<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Collisions<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This only applies where it is your fault:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hitting another vehicle, whether it&#8217;s stationary or moving<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Running into a kerb at speed, i.e. anything more than a light touch while manoeuvring<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mounting a kerb<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contact with a traffic island or street furniture (note: tall vehicles should be aware of road camber and how it can cause the top of the vehicle to contact shop canopies, trees and lamp posts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having a preventable accident (this includes accidents where you might be partially at fault)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Illegal and\/or dangerous acts<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using a mobile phone<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exceeding the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/speed-limits-in-the-uk\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">speed limit<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: requirements<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No MOT or is not roadworthy (having an MOT doesn&#8217;t mean the vehicle is roadworthy, it means that it was deemed roadworthy on the day it was tested)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Windscreen has a serious crack<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not enough fuel or fluids<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isn&#8217;t suitable for the type of licence you&#8217;re sitting<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vehicle breaks down<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dual controls are not operational if installed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vehicle is a convertible with no roof available and the weather is bad, e.g. rain<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Miscellaneous<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The testing officer considers that you are too ill to complete the test safely<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You are suspected of being under the influence of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/rules-for-drivers-and-motorcyclists-alcohol-and-drugs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">alcohol or drugs<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weather conditions are too challenging to be safe (e.g. heavy snow)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span
