There are also contributing factors which are recorded in order of importance.<\/p>\n<h2>Road environment contributed<\/h2>\n<p>Slippery road due to weather &#8211; roads can be especially slippery when there&#8217;s light rain after a long dry spell. Areas of tar bleed, where the aggregate in the road has worn away and just left black tar, are very slippery when the weather is extremely hot (due to melting), wet or cold.<\/p>\n<p>Deposit on road (e.g. oil, mud, chippings) &#8211; motorists should be careful on newly sealed road surfaces because of loose chippings, and also around farm gates<\/p>\n<p>Poor or defective road surface (e.g. <a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/why-are-the-uks-roads-full-of-potholes-43084\/\">pot holes<\/a> and degradation)<\/p>\n<p>Sunken, raised or slippery inspection cover (especially dangerous for motorbikes)<\/p>\n<p>Road layout (e.g. bend, hill, narrow carriageway)<\/p>\n<p>Temporary road layout (e.g. contraflow)<\/p>\n<p>Animal or object in carriageway<\/p>\n<p>Inadequate or masked signs or road markings<\/p>\n<p>Defective traffic signals<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/what-are-traffic-calming-measures\/\">Traffic calming<\/a> (e.g. speed cushions, road humps, chicanes)<\/p>\n<h2>Vehicle defects<\/h2>\n<p>Tyres illegal, defective or <a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/taking-care-of-your-tyres\/\">under-inflated<\/a> &#8211; tyres with less than 3mm tread have an exponential drop-off in their effectiveness in wet conditions<\/p>\n<p>Defective lights or indicators<\/p>\n<p>Defective brakes<\/p>\n<p>Defective steering or suspension<\/p>\n<p>Defective or missing mirrors &#8211;
