Various forms are used to code the crashes. Every country has different methods, some involving coded diagrams and others, like in the UK, that are a lot of checkboxes and written descriptions. Members of the public can even get crash coding forms from police branches such as <a href=\"http:\/\/212.62.21.14\/Article\/Collision-forms-and-reports\/1400005513174\/1400005513174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Met<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But a real police coding form is a complex beast with a large number of sections to fill out, and it&#8217;s worth highlighting them so that you can see what factors police believe contribute to a crash.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the number and type of vehicles and casualties, the speed limit and whether a police officer attended, the following are recorded:<\/p>\n<h2>Road type<\/h2>\n<p>Roundabout<\/p>\n<p>One-way street<\/p>\n<p>Dual carriageway<\/p>\n<p>Single carriageway<\/p>\n<p>Slip road<\/p>\n<p>Unknown<\/p>\n<h2>Junction detail<\/h2>\n<p>Not at or within 20 metres of junction<\/p>\n<p>Roundabout<\/p>\n<p>Mini roundabout<\/p>\n<p>T or staggered junction<\/p>\n<p>Slip road<\/p>\n<p>Crossroads<\/p>\n<p>Junction more than four arms (not RAB)<\/p>\n<p>Using private drive or entrance<\/p>\n<p>Other junction<\/p>\n<h2>Junction control<\/h2>\n<p>Authorised person<\/p>\n<p>Automatic traffic signal<\/p>\n<p>Stop sign<\/p>\n<p>Give way or uncontrolled<\/p>\n<h2>Pedestrian crossing &#8211;
