When this line lengthens and the gaps shorten, it means that there is a hazard ahead. White direction arrows on the road indicate that you need to get back onto your side of the road.<\/p>\n<h2>Rule 129<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid.<\/strong> This means you <strong>MUST NOT<\/strong> cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km\/h) or less.<br \/>\n<strong>Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 &amp; TSRGD regs 10 &amp; 26<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Rule 130<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Areas of white diagonal stripes<\/strong> or chevrons painted on the road. These are to separate traffic lanes or to protect traffic turning right.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2423\" src=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/median-strip-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"median strip\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/median-strip-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/median-strip-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/median-strip.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so.<\/li>\n<li>If the area is marked with chevrons and bordered by solid white lines you <strong>MUST NOT<\/strong> enter it except in an emergency.<br \/>\n<strong>Laws MT(E&amp;W)R regs 5, 9, 10 &amp; 16, MT(S)R regs 4, 8, 9 &amp; 14, RTA sect 36 &amp; TSRGD 10(1)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Rule 131<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Lane dividers.<\/strong> These are short, broken white lines which are used on wide carriageways to divide them into lanes. You should keep between them.<\/p>\n<h2>Rule 132<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Reflective road studs<\/strong> may be used with white lines.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>White studs mark the lanes or the middle of the road.<\/li>\n<li>Red studs mark the left edge of the road.<\/li>\n<li>Amber studs mark the central reservation of a dual carriageway or motorway.<\/li>\n<li>Green studs mark the edge of the main carriageway at lay-bys and slip roads.<\/li>\n<li>Green\/yellow studs indicate temporary adjustments to lane layouts, e.g. where road works are taking place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/highway-code-rule-132.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2164\" src=\"http:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/highway-code-rule-132-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"highway-code-rule-132\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/highway-code-rule-132-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mocktheorytest.com\/resources\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/highway-code-rule-132.jpg 477w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>See \u2018Road markings\u2019 to see diagrams of all lines.
