DVSA is consulting the public over the cost of theory tests. Recently we ran a survey of 1056 driving instructors<\/a> and 30.4% of them thought the current costs for getting a licence were too much. The proposal by DVSA is that the cost of the driving theory test could be cut by 25%, saving learner drivers \u00a314.5m a year.<\/p>\n

The plans would see the cost of a car driving theory test fall by \u00a36 in October this year, taking the cost of a test from \u00a331 to \u00a325, with a further drop of \u00a32 planned in October 2015.<\/p>\n

The government has an espoused commitment to reduce the cost of motoring and there are proposed reductions for car, motorcycle, bus and lorry theory tests.<\/p>\n

DVSA Chief Executive, Alastair Peoples, said:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBy agreeing new contract arrangements for the delivery of theory tests we have secured significant cost savings, and it is right that we pass these savings on to our customers. We want to make sure that we continue to keep pace with customers\u2019 needs and deliver services in a way which is both convenient and cost effective.\u201d<\/p>\n
